Engine Clean Up

Step One: On a cold engine: coat all underhood areas with Armor all or similar product. Avoid spraying it directly on the belt or distributor.
Step Two: Start the car and bring it to operating temperature.
Step Three: Let the engine cool for approxatatly 15 minutes.
Step Four: On the now warm engine: Use Windex, 409 or similar household cleaner and spray on the entire engine compartment. Make sure you use even more on heavily soiled areas.
Step Five: Let the cleaner sit for 5 minutes. If you let it sit too long it will evaporate and stain aluminum parts and you will have to start all over again.
Step Six: Using LOW PRESSURE water, rinse the engine. This can also be done while the car is running if you prefer. (not recommended) Make sure you do not hold the water on the distributor for too long. Be sure that you rinse well.
Step Seven: Start the car and bring it to operating temperature. Driving it for a while is good too, as you will be sure that all of the engine compartment gets dry.
Step Eight: With the engine off repeat step ONE.
Step Nine: Wipe off low or flat areas and any area where you might still see some dirt. Wipe off all metal surfaces (some Armor All will remain) including the intake, Alt. and water pump.
Step Ten: Show off your work! People are always amazed how clean my 32,000-mile engine is. |
